Data & Beyond: Analytics Case Competition

IIM Bangalore’s International business summit Vista 2021, in association with the Analytics Society of IIMB, presents Data & Beyond.
Harnessing data and drawing insights from it in the 20th century is the equivalent of powering factories using electricity in the 1950s. Modern businesses are driven by analytics. With businesses across domains increasingly leveraging large volumes of data in all decision making, Data & Beyond presents participants with an opportunity to do the same by working on a real, data-heavy business case to test their analytics skills against the best minds in the country. Dabble yourself in such ubiquitous aspect of the modern world.

Round 1 – Ignition

• A 30-minute online elimination round with 30 multiple-choice questions. Teams will be required to be fast and accurate as they are quizzed on the basics of analytics and data science. Top 30 teams get to advance to Lift-Off!
• Scoring Details: +1 for each correct answer, 0 for un-attempted questions, and -0.5 for each incorrect answer. All questions will appear simultaneously and ties will be split in favor of the team with the faster completion time.

Round 2 – Lift-Off

• Teams will be expected to apply their analytics expertise to solve a total of 12 questions in 45 minutes across different data-based caselets of varying difficulty. Teams will be required to quickly analyze data or interpret analytical results in a mix of multiple-choice and fill-in style questions.
• Top 20 teams get to blast-off Into the Beyond!
• Scoring Details: Questions in different caselets will have different points depending on the level of difficulty. No negative points for incorrect answers. All questions will appear simultaneously and ties will be split in favor of the team with faster completion time.

Round 3 – Into the Beyond

• Now in rarefied territory, the top 20 teams will be presented with a data-intensive, real business case. Teams will be expected to work on and present (virtually) their solutions to a panel of academic and industry experts.
• The case and dataset will be sent to the team leader on their registered mail. 

Presentation Submission Detail

1. You are required to go through the case and work on the questions mentioned towards the end of the case using the dataset provided
2. Teams should submit their final presentation (ppt version) prior to the deadline and follow the naming convention <Team Name_Data&Beyond>
3. Upper limit to the number of slides is 15. During the finale the presentation will last for 10 mins followed by a 5 min QnA, so you are advised to curate the content/ number of slides accordingly.
4. There will be no extensions provided to the deadline hence teams are requested to plan their work and submission accordingly

Round 4 – National Finale

• The submissions will be evaluated by a judging panel and top 8 teams will be shortlisted. The top 8 shortlisted teams will present (virtually) their solutions to a panel of academic and industry experts. Top 2 teams will be declared by as winners and runners up by the jury.

Rules:

1. The registrations will close by 22nd July.
2. Round 2 quiz be accessible to the teams that qualify round 1.
3. Teams must comprise minimum 2 and maximum 3 members, all of whom must be enrolled in a graduate or a post-graduate program at the time of the competition.
4. A team can have team members from different colleges.
5. An institute can have any number of teams participating. However, if a team member is found participating as a part of more than one team, all such teams shall be disqualified.
6. All rounds will be conducted online.

• All decisions in matters of eligibility, authenticity, and final judgments will be with the organizing committee of Vista, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. The format and structure of events on campus could be subject to change before the actual beginning of the event.
