More than 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single day. Social videos generate 1200% more shares than text and images combined. Moreover, nearly 80% of users recall a video ad more easily that they see online. Hence, this round will test how well you can create videos that not only capture the essence of the brand or product but also make them ‘recall’. Don on your creative hats and develop a purposeful ad around an existing product of any company or the brand as a whole. Case-based Competition
When it comes to evaluating the quintessential marketing skills, what’s better than a real-time business problem? If shortlisted, you will move to the final round where you will be solving a real-life case showcasing your understanding of the marketing challenges and ability to curate the best strategy for a modern-day consumer. Remember, the consumer is the king!
Online Finals
The top 7 teams will move to the Online finals. You will have to present the previously submitted PPT to our prestigious panel of judges and top two teams will be crowned as the winner and runner-up.

IIM Bangalore’s International business summit Vista 2020, in association with MaSH, the Marketing Club of IIMB, presents MarkGuru.
The world of marketing is changing dramatically, not only because of availability of a variety of marketing platforms or data or trends but because of the consumer who is becoming wiser and hence, more immune to generic marketing gimmicks. Marketers need to be spontaneous and on-point in their approach. MarkGuru tests this ability of new-age marketers on how impactful they can be in their communications and innovative in their strategies for the problem at hand.
Round 1: Marketing Crossword Quiz
Are you ready to get your brain teased by a whacky puzzle on brands? This round is a crossword where you need to identify a particular brand based on the given clues. So, put your best foot forward as the number of correct answers and speed is the name of the game.
Number of questions: 20
Time: 25 minutes
This is an elimination round.
Round 2: Theme Based Video Ad
More than 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single day. Social videos generate 1200% more shares than text and images combined. Moreover, nearly 80% of users recall a video ad more easily that they see online. Hence, this round will test how well you can create videos that not only capture the essence of the brand or product but also make them ‘recall’. Don on your creative hats and develop a purposeful ad around an existing product of any company or the brand as a whole. Ensure that the ad drives home a social message that is in line with the product or brand.
Details:
- Create 60 seconds (maximum limit) video ad
- At least 1 member of the team should be present in the ad (No upper limit on the number of people who can be in the video. People outside of the team can also be included if the ad demands)
- Be creative. Don’t just use pictures and animations. Put your fancy phone camera to use.

This is an elimination round. We will upload it on our official page to see if your video has what it takes to create impactful and viral content. The ads will be shared on MaSh’s Instagram handle (marketing.iimb).

Judgement Criteria – All videos will be judged based on the uniqueness and creativity of the idea, spontaneity of the video and the response it garners on social media.
Round 3: Case based Competition (Pre-Finals)
When it comes to evaluating the quintessential marketing skills, what’s better than a real-time business problem? If shortlisted, you will move to the final round where you will be solving a real-life case showcasing your understanding of the marketing challenges and ability to curate the best strategy for a modern-day consumer. Remember, the consumer is the king!
Details – Teams must submit a 5 slide PPT (Excluding Cover Page, Thank you and Appendix). Also include the name of team members and college on the cover page. Please follow “Team Name_Team Leader Name” as the naming convention for submission.
Round 4: Case based competition (Online Finals-Zoom)
The top 7 teams will move to the Online finals. You will have to present the previously submitted PPT to our prestigious panel of judges and only one team will be crowned as the winner.
Details –
- No changes to the PPT submitted in the previous round will be allowed
- The format of the final round will be 7 min presentation followed by a 4 min Q&A session
Note: Selected teams will be informed about the exact timings in due course of time.

- The participants must carefully read through and agree to the following Terms & Conditions: All decisions in matters of eligibility, authenticity, and final judgments will be with the organizing committee of Vista, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. The format and structure of events on campus could be subject to change before the actual beginning of the event.
- The decisions of the organizers will be final and binding on all participants.
