Niti Vishleshak: Stages and Timelines

Round 1: Policy Brief - Rethink

Find yourself intrigued by changes in the social and political environment? Niti Vishleshak provides you an opportunity to analyse contemporary topics from different perspectives and present your understanding of them. In the first round, individuals/teams have to submit a brief (concise summary of 400-800 words) analysing any topic that comes under the given domains.

Round 2: Explainer Video

Shortlisted participants get an opportunity to present their analysis in the form of a recorded video (about 2-5 minutes long). Selected videos will be put up on the IIMB Public Policy Club’s social media handles for 3-4 days. These selected teams will then be invited for a Q&A round on 7/8th August. All that you need to know about Niti Vishleshak:

IIM Bangalore’s International Business Summit Vista 2021, in association with the Public Policy Club of IIMB, presents “Niti Vishleshak” -  a competition for all policy enthusiasts.

Niti Vishleshak is aimed at providing a platform for public policy aficionados to present their analysis on any contemporary topic that they find interesting. It aims to encourage young minds to start following the public space more closely and express their views on how policies should be framed going ahead. Participants are expected to deliver a thorough analysis and show how their chosen topic has impacted the respective industries and society at large.

It will be an excellent opportunity for participants to get hands-on experience in analyzing contemporary topics and help them sharpen their policy knowledge as they get a chance to showcase their analysis on an established public policy handle while competing with the best minds in the country. Lastly, selected teams will also be invited for a Q&A round through which they can showcase the depth of their analysis.

Participants are at liberty to choose any topic which is related to at least one of the given fields:

  • The startup ecosystem in India
  • Atmanirbhar Bharat 
  • Farm Laws
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Impact of COVID on Education system of India and future prospects
  • Vaccination in India
  • India’s response to the Pandemic
  • Unemployment in India
  • Rural to Urban Migration
  •  Foreign Investment in India
  •  Digital Payment Ecosystem in India
  •  Indo - US Relations
  •  Indo - China Relations

General Guidelines:

  • You can participate in teams of 1-3 people.
  • Cross-college teams are allowed.
  • Each team can choose only one topic for analysis and the same should be presented in both Round 1 and Round 2.
  • The competition shall be conducted in two rounds:
    • Brief Submission
    • Explainer Video
  • Selected teams for the final round will be informed through mail. However, the video presentation of only some of the selected participants will be displayed on the social media handles.
  • There is no participation fee.
  • An institute can have any number of teams participating. However, if a team member is found participating as a part of more than one team, all such teams shall be disqualified.
  • All rounds will be conducted online. E-Certificates will be awarded to all final teams reaching round 2.

Round 1: Brief Submission

  • The submissions will be accepted in PDF format and the language can be either Hindi or English.
  • The word limit for policy brief submission is 400 - 800 words excluding the cover page and appendix if any. 
  • The PDF must be uploaded on D2C with the naming convention: <TeamName>_<CollegeName>.pdf; 
  • Only the first submission shall be considered. No submission will be considered after the deadline.
  • The title page must include team members' names (the first name should be of the POC)

Round 2: Explainer Video

  • The submissions will be accepted in any recognized video format and the language should be either Hindi or English.
  • The time limit for the video is capped to 5 mins. However, the submission should be at least 2 minutes in length.
  • The video must be uploaded on D2C with the following naming convention  <Team Leader's FullName>_<CollegeName>
  • Only the first submission shall be considered. No submission will be considered after the deadline.

Evaluation Criteria:

Round 1:

  • This is a screening round. Here the focus will be on evaluating the comprehensiveness of the brief that has been submitted. Important evaluation parameters will be:
    • Originality
    • Comprehensiveness
    • Coherence
    • Structuring of thoughts
    • Balanced perspective covering all stakeholders

Round 2:

  • Here, the evaluation will focus more on the details presented and the depth of the analysis. The participants should note that precise and solid propositions backed by facts and analysis, will be rewarded.
  • Further, the engagement that the video generates on social media will also be an important component for evaluation.
  • Apart from social media, the other key evaluation parameters will be:
    • Depth of the analysis; attention to detail
    • Arguments are given to defend their stand
    • Coherence is the flow from introduction to conclusion
    • Creativity in presenting ideas
  • Lastly, there will be a Q&A session for selected teams before the results are revealed. Social media will account for 30% of the weightage while Q&A and the parameters mentioned above will account for the remaining 70%.
  •  
  • Social Media Activity (30% weightage): Top 10 videos will be uploaded on the official Instagram page of Public Policy Club, IIM Bangalore on 5th August. Selected teams have to publicize their video with the aim of increasing their reach. The number of views and likes on the video will be considered as the evaluation parameter. Likes and views obtained till 7th August, 11:59 PM will be considered for the evaluation score.
    • 1 Like = 1 Point
    • 1 View = 0.5 Point
  • Video + Q&A (70% weightage): Top 10 videos will be presented during the final round to our esteemed panel. This will then be followed by a short Q&A session.
    • Date: 8th August
    • Time:  5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

  • All decisions in matters of eligibility, authenticity, and final judgments will be with the organizing committee of Vista, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.
  • The format and structure of events on campus could be subject to change before the actual beginning of the event.
  • The decisions of the organizers will be final and binding on all participants.
