All that you need to know about Tata Imagination Challenge 2020

Think your imagination can take on the world? Then, the Tata Imagination Challenge 2020 is for you. India’s largest business challenge that’s open to all college-going students across the country (Student Track) as well as all Tata group employees across the world (In-House Track).

All you need to do is power up on your analytical skills, business acumen, and imagination to solve 3 rounds.

  • Step 2: Register for the Tata Imagination Challenge 2020 and choose your track
  • Step 3: Kick-start your journey

Eligibility Rules:

The only qualification you need is a passion for ideas and the will to pursue them. If you can bet on your imagination to change the world, if your ideas can solve current business challenges and if you can’t wait to meet the best in you, then the Tata Imagination Challenge 2020 is for you!

Student Track: You will be eligible for this track if you are a college-going student (Undergraduate or Post-Graduate) from any stream, across the country

  • are currently an active full-time student
  • have completed 10+2 schooling or equivalent
  • are in any year of college study, after 10+2 schooling or equivalent (1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th year of college)
  • have enrolled for regular or full-time courses, Undergraduate (UG) OR Postgraduate (PG), in a university/ college as of 1st September 2020, across India
  • are pursuing courses approved by AICTE or UGC or 1-year management courses by business schools
  • and classes on your academic curriculum have begun

You’re not eligible for this track if:

  • You’ve been offered admission but your classes haven’t started
  • You’ve enrolled in a correspondence/distance education course
  • You’ve already passed out of your college or completed your course
  • You are not a full-time student
  • Students who are on sabbatical from their current employer are not eligible

In-House Track: You will be eligible for this track if you are a permanent employee of any Tata company or Tata Joint venture company,  globally (Including those who are on sabbatical)

You’re not eligible for this track if:

  • You are a working professional who is not on the permanent rolls of Tata group companies or Tata Joint Venture companies
  • You are on the rolls of the JV partner of the Tata joint venture company

Competition Structure:

Round 1 - Brand Stories and Analytithon: Every registered participant who is eligible will be moved to the next round basis cumulative score in Brand Stories and Analytithon.

Round 2 - Case Submissions: Shortlisted participants will have to choose one case out of 3 available case studies. They need to submit a 5-slider presentation (excluding cover and end slides) + a video of up to 2 and a half minutes talking about the solution.

  • The presentation should be in .ppt or .pptx format with the case solution mentioned in up to 5 slides, excluding the into slides and annexures if any. The minimum font size to be used is 12.
  • You need to create a video to explain your solution in any format that you think is the best way to put your points across. It can be an animation, your ppt with voice over, direct presentation, etc. 
  • The duration of the video should be a maximum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds. 
  • The video should be in .MP4 format and should not exceed 15 MB in size. You can convert and compress your videos @ https://www.ps2pdf.com/compress-mp4

Round 3 - Big Idea Presentation: Present your big idea to a jury comprising Tata group leaders.

Round 3 (Big Idea Presentation) is completely independent of  Round 2 (Case Submission). The participants are required to present their big idea. 

The idea can be:

  • Entrepreneurial/business-related/from the social sector
  • Completely new or an extension of an existing product or service line
  • May or may not be a part of the Tata realm but should be mindful of the Tata ethos

The Idea will be evaluated on the following parameters:

  • Futuristic / Innovative / Challenging the conventional wisdom
  • Scalable
  • Practical
  • It should have a Business Case
  • Knowledge about the idea and all the aspects being presented during the final pitch

  • Round 2: Case Crusader title and merit certificates to participants who performed well in Round 2 but could not make it to the next round

  • Round 3: Popular Choice Awards - Top 3. Top 3 ideas to be awarded by Popular Choice. In this round, all ideas will be open for voting. Based on the popular choice, the top 3 most voted ideas will be selected. These will be entirely independent of the jury assessments.
